Discuss with your bridesmaids beforehand what they would like to wear but remember you have the final word. It is better to let them wear something that they feel comfortable in, but give them guidelines. Rather than the typical netted bridesmaid dress, put adult bridesmaids in something that they would want to wear again. A separate skirt and bodice can be worn again together or separately. Don't put child maids and adults in the same style of dress If you are having a lot of young brides-maids keep the cost down by buying pretty party dresses off the peg from local department stores. Add a contrasting coloured sash to complement the adult bridesmaids. Make sure your bridesmaids have cover-ups to keep them warm, whilst having photo's taken outside. Warm children are happy children! Don't put your bridesmaids in tight dresses, tottery high heeled shoes and with wraps that fall off their shoulders, if you expect them to help you with your long train or hold your flowers. Don't buy your small bridesmaid dresses too early as children grow quickly.

Wendy Jonas Couture Designs gives her

top tips for choosing the right dresses

Keep your bridesmaid dresses simple. By the time they have their hair and make up done and are carrying bouquets, they don't need fussy dresses. Bridesmaids don't have to wear the same style of dress as it might not suit all of your girls. If having bespoke dresses made, then go for the same colour but perhaps different shape skirts or necklines. If you are buying off the peg, look for individual dresses in your colour theme. Choose a colour that suits all of your maids or consider a theme, like autumn colours or black and white. If you find it difficult finding five dresses all in the same colour then add another colour. For example, all wear blue trimmed with silver or put three in blue and two in silver. Make sure the colour and style of your bridesmaid dresses complement your wedding dress.
